Step into Somerset County history at the Ross Farm during the annual Weekend Journey Through the Past!

Each fall, historic sites throughout Somerset County open their doors for this special weekend, giving visitors a chance to explore the people, places and stories that have shaped our communities. At the Ross Farm, those stories stretch from the founding of our nation to the generations who lived, worked and made their home here.

The property was once part of the estate of Elias Boudinot, President of the Continental Congress and an important figure in Revolutionary-era America. Visitors can learn more about Boudinot and his world while also exploring the history of the Ross family, whose stewardship of the property helped preserve this remarkable place for future generations.

Activities at the Ross Farm include:

  • Tours of the historic house and gardens
  • Performances of a short play about the life of Elias Boudinot
  • Presentations on the history of Basking Ridge’s beloved Old Oak Tree
  • Historical presentations about Elias Boudinot from Boxwood Hall
  • A chance to “converse” with Elias through our aiBoudinot project
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Kite flying on the lawn

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a longtime local resident, or simply curious about the historic places in your own backyard, Weekend Journey Through the Past is a wonderful opportunity to discover something new.

In this 250th anniversary year of American independence, we’re especially pleased to share the Ross Farm’s connections to the founding generation and to welcome visitors of all ages to experience history where it happened.

Admission is free, and no tickets or registration are required. Drop in anytime and join us!
